Parts of the assignment

Pages 2 - 5 are concerned with aspects of addition reactions that you should either have studied at school or learned by reading the handouts provided.  If you have trouble, see also the BestChoice modules on Alkenes and Addition Mechanism.

Pages 6 - 7 introduce a molecule that is referred to as MK-0476. These question pages deal with the stereochemistry of this molecule, and its functional groups.

Pages 8 - 19 focus on a multistep synthesis of a part of the MK-0476 molecule. With one exception, the reagents used have been mentioned in the handouts.  One of the objectives of this section is to show you how consideration of the bonding, the acid-base, and the redox properties of these reagents can help you to understand their properties and to appreciate where they can be used to achieve a synthetic target.

Inevitably, you will enter wrong answers into BestChoice, either by mistake or because you did not know the right answer.  Correct these just as you would if you were working on paper.  Your best score on any page is stored.

There is no need to complete the assignment in a single attempt.  The History check box on each page is checked by default in BestChoice; therefore, if you come back to a page, your previous answers will be filled in.  If you want to start over, simply uncheck the History box.
